FESTIVAL PERFORMERS 2010
Caleb Bryant
The crowd favorite from the last
two year's festival was this award-winning 9-year-old fiddler from
Northport, AL.
Caleb is a young fiddler who has won many competitions and currently
plays fiddle in CrimsonGrass – a bluegrass Gospel Group in the
West Alabama area. Caleb began playing the fiddle when he was
four years old. God has blessed him to be able to progress into quite a
fiddle player. You’ll be shocked as you listen to this young man.
You’ll have to remind yourself that he’s only 9 years
old!!

Grasshopper Stringband
Pickin' Up a Storm!
You
will be entertained by this non-traditional bluegrass band playing of
the Grasshopper Stringband from Marion, AL, with tunes such as Wagon Wheel, Cheap Whiskey and Deep River Blues. Today,
on any given evening, on any given back porch, the
tradition continues as folk music plays such a large part in the
everyday lives of Black Belt residents. The
Grasshopper Stringband is proud to be able to share with you a piece of
the Alabama Black Belt’s musical tradition by sharing a small
piece of this culture with you.

The Carrell Family
Sing a new song to Him; play
skillfully on the strings, with a joyful shout.
The Carrell Family Bluegrass Gospel Band is a family
band located in northeast Alabama with Father, Mother, Son and Daughter
who sing and play instruments to glorify the Lord. Daddy
plays the upright bass, Mama plays the pink guitar, Brother plays the
3-finger banjo and the clawhammer banjo, and Sister plays the mandolin
and the fiddle. The children are the main members of this
band. In 2008, Brother won 2nd place in Jack Hatfield's Smokey
Mountain Banjo Academy's Three-finger Bluegrass Banjo contest and 1st
place in the Clawhammer Banjo contest. In 2009, he became the Old
Timey Banjo Grand Champion of the Cherokee County Fiddler's
Convention. Sister wows the audience with her fast mandolin
pickin' and fun fiddlin'. She doesn't do contests. They
base what they do on Psalm 33:3: Sing a new song to Him; play
skillfully on the strings, with a joyful shout.
